clk crystal oscillator

i am using hyperStone 16xRS DSP/RISC chip needs 16 MHz.

which crystal can i use? a Crystal oscillator(4 pin) or Quartz Crystal(2 pin) ?

and what is the differences between a CRYSTAL OSCILLATOR and a QUARTZ CRYSTAL? :)

A Crystal oscillator(4 pin):
the 4 pin includ: power,ground,clk out.If power is on,the pin clk out will work.

A Quartz Crystal(2 pin):
the 2 pin includ:clk in,clk out.

oscillator generate clock by itself, while crystal need other components (cap and active devices) to construct an oscillator. many MCUs can use both. check your datasheet.

However for higher fan-out you need to use clock buffers.
