What happens if we interchange positions of pmos & nmos transistors in CMOS inverter?

Hi all,
What would happen if we interchange the positions of pmos and nmos transistor in a CMOS inverter. Will this still work as a proper inverter. Can somebody explain in detail? Thanks

Best Regards,

Re: CMOS inverter

No, it will work as a buffer after interchanging nmos and pmos. But still the operation wouldnt be rail to rail as the nmos transmits a weak '1' and pmos transmits a weak '0'.

CMOS inverter

there will be a threshold lost when transmits 0 by PMOS or transmit 1 by NMOS.

Re: CMOS inverter

if you interchange the positions of pmos and nmos transistor in a CMOS inverter,
it will become a buffer,
and the buffer is not so good, because maximal output high level will be VCC - Vtt
(Vtt is NMOSFET's threshold voltage), minimal output low level will be
VSS + Vtp(Vtp is PMOSFET's threshold voltage).
this is the reason that in digital electronics a buffer
is made of two inverters, because the output voltage will
close VCC or GND.

best regards

Re: CMOS inverter

It will act as a bad buffer with outputs ranging from Vdd - Vt to Vss + Vt
