Changing the pitch of a metal layer

Hi,
I have a question regarding the pitch of the metal layers that is specified in the technology file, can I change its value ?

The techfile probably is declaring the minimum width
/ space / pitch, in which case you'd be at liberty to go
coarser. But not finer.

However techfiles can have a lot of "stuff" in them
and perhaps the "route-at" numbers for synthesis
and P&R are what you are looking at. Hard to say.
