FSS simulations

Hi,

I am want to work on the simulation of of FSS, but do not know how to begin. I need to know the reflection coefficient from the surface due to incident plane wave. So does any one has any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Re: FSS simulations

Hello,

You have two options. The general one is to use master slave boundaries. The second one (for incident wave) to use Perfect H and Perfect E boundaries.

Please contact your local Ansoft representative. I've sent a few months ago to our technical supervisor (in Ansoft's France) an FSS example that we did in our recent HFSS training. It includes a few snapshots with details and the HFSS models.

Itai Frenkel

Re: FSS simulations

I'm also trying to simulate an FSS on HFSS v9.2.
When I asked Ansoft for help, I got a great description for v10, which is not yet distributed.

The simulation runs well, with incident wave, PML and periodic boundaries.
But I don't know how to plot the reflection coefficient over the frequency. How can I get |r| of different frequencies without changing the model?

Re: FSS simulations

Can anybody explain the details about simulat FSS using HFss!

3q!

FSS simulations

if I apply the incident wave, how can I get the reflection pattern like the radiation boundary

Re: FSS simulations

I recommend to use Version 10, its very easy then.

If you don't have, I suggest you try the following, it worked well with my last work.

1) Build an Airbox: a cuboid with z-dimension from -2lambda to +lambda/2

2) Set up Periodicity (Master/Slave boundaries) to the sides

3) Set up Radiation or PML to the top and bottom end of the cuboid

4) Model the FSS-cell in x- and y-direction at z=-3/2 lambda

5) Use a plane wave excitation with k=(0,0,-1) propagation in the -z-direction

6) Calculate the mean value in the z=0 plane for the ComplexMag_E with the Fields Calculator. This works ONLY with a plane wave emerging early, check the plots to be sure (Huygens principle). You must calculate the value for each frequency step and use a different program to make diagrams, I used Excel. Its time-consuming, but it works.
At the frequency at which surface waves are excited, this setup will not give valuable results.

Re: FSS simulations

Dear all,

For those who are familiar, analysis of FSSs works pretty much the same way as EBGs (or even PBGs). I've placed some HFSS tutorials on EBGs for some reader before. I'm re-directing you guys to the thread instead:

Hope this helps,
