Hi all, I have a project of Speech Recognition using neural networks. It's ok up to now to implement in software. I'd like to design a hardware system. Anybody have advice for me ?

This is a NICE PROJECT ,,Years ago INTEL designed a NEURAL NETWORK CHIP .. some RESEARCH product that was given to UNIVERSITIES ..

Ok you have two ways to go .. NEURAL NETWORKS need a LOT of two OPERATIONS .ADDITIONS and MULTIPLICATIONS ... (and compairaisons )
and the implementation of the OUTPUT FUNCTION that depends of the the one that you are using .

One easy way to get started is to use a DSP .. they are really POWERFULL this days and also can be put in PARALLEl if you need more POWER ,,like the new TI's
C6713 at 700 mhz and 1 gigahertz

The other way is to go with FPGA .This allows to use masive PARALLISM .. the new VIRTEX 4 arhitectures are INCREDIBLE RICH in RESOURCES ,, it has all thay you need ..a lot of MULTIPLIERS .RAM to store the NEURAL states and even a HOST CPU to take care of the HOUSE KEEPING ...,But you need some EXPERIENCE to design something like this ..specially on how to IMPLEMENT the OUTPUT FUNCTIONS.. but this VIRTEX chips are RECONFIGURABLE it will be great to design the building blocks and SOME KIND of NEURAL NETWORK application GENERATOR that will PRODUCE different sizes and types of NETWORKS in VHDL ..!!

I FORGOT to ADD ..there is a GREAT BOOK by MN CIRSTEA the title is
NEURAL AND FUZZY LOGIC ONTROL OF DRIVES AND POWER SYSTEMS

this BOOK is SEEN like the ONLY REAL INTEGRATION OF FUZZY AND NEURONAL TECHNIQUES IN A COMPLETE BOOK

CHAPTER 5 DEALS with NEURAL NETWORKS IN FPGA

Hi eltonjohn, thanks a lot for your help and suggestion. It seems that these problems you mentioned are too complicated for me. I didn't imagine that it is so difficult. I'll spend more time to read about what you said. Hope someday we can talk about this again.

Thanks anyway.

hi eltonjohn,
is there ebook version for the book?

thanks :)
i found it here.

btw, i've seen speech recognition implemented in FPGA.

so basically, depends on what kind of hardware..

Can you give out the links or info about the implementation in FPGA? Thx. :)

i just saw it in the lab :), the demonstration.

You will recommend these books to solution your problem.

/Book "Handbook of NEURAL NETWORK SIGNAL PROCESSING" deleted. It is available here:

I understand that you need somthing simple to design the hardware neural network without using fpga. So you can use fet transistor as variable resistance and diodes as noe function. the gate of the fet transistor could be drived using variable volt from variable resistance. i had seen a project like this and it works but only for demonstration.
