what type of battery is this?

please refer to figure above. i think its a battery. does anyone knows what type of battery is that?
 

i know its most commonly used battery type. but may i know why it could be li-ion? its looks so small.

the device is 6.5cm x 3.5cm. the battery will only be 1.25cm x 1.25cm. how is it possible? what will be the capacity of the battery then?

If you can access the battery terminals, please measure the no-load voltage. This will be the first step in finding out the type of battery. If not, perhaps you can eliminate many types...
 

i have only got the pics. i dont have the device. :(
 

The Li-Po battery in my little quad-copter is 2cm x 1.2cm and has a capacity of 80mAh. One-quarter of its length is a tiny circuit board where its wires are soldered on to it.
 
thanks audioguru. im aware that li-po is higher capacity then li-ion. thanks for giving example based on your experience. im thinking the battery might be glued onto the board.
 

If its a medical device such as the "splash" alarm it probably is a battery on the basis there's nowhere else to put one.
The red/black wires in the one photo suggest charging current.
LiPo would be my guess too but if it is a "splash" type device you could give the manufacturer a ring
and ask what type of battery they put in them - I feel sure they'd be happy to say.

you nailed it. yes its a medical device called "great call 5star". however i dont think manufacture will reveal it if im not their customer.
 

I agree it looks more like a ceramic patch antenna. Are you sure the red and black wires going to the small white plug don't lead to a battery under the board?

It has to be a GPS module used to report the device location making a cellular call, to locate and assist the person distress call that pushed the button on the front cover.
The battery has to be at the end of the red/black wires on the other side of the board.

since you asked, i will give you the full pictures. based on the pictures, i concluded that the highlighted is the battery. let me know if you have different view point.

The weiku link doesn't work for me but I think the battery isn't shown in the photographs. The ceramic square is a patch antenna for GPS reception and the batteries ar at the end of the wires with the white plug under the board. To supply enough current to run the GPS and tracker beacon it would almost certainly be a LiPo battery similar to the ones used in cordless phones. The red wire at the left of 14.7 and 14.8 and possibly a detached black wire to the pad next to it must go to a small microphone or loudspeaker mounted on the case. They are clearly not the same wires that go to the white plug.

its not a link but attachment. you can download and see. there is no battery at the back (if you see the attachment). the black and red wire is for mic.
 

Look at 14.8 there is a red wire linking a pad on the board to the case. It looks like there should also be a black wire but it has detached at the board end and is pushed back in the plastic on the left. Those will be the microphone wires.

I'm talking about the red and black wires that go to the white plug in picture 14.5 and pass under the board. They will be the battery connections so it must be under the board. There are no photographs of the area inside the case under the board or other pictures showing where the wires go to. It would make sense to plug the battery to the board as it will be a 'consumable' (will need occasional replacement) item.

you are right. but they should have battery picture there. its weird that their FCC test report dont have full pic..
 

I've left it a day or so to let others comment who raised serious options but this is my thinking:

The flexi cable on the left of the module has very large pads - these do not suggest signal although
the short section running under the white area may do so.

The sticker on the top of the unit has a very clear date - that would make more sense if this was a LiPo
battery than a GPS device. (Such things having a known lifespan)

I still suggest the red/black wires come from the charging connector on the side of the unit - especially
since they are clearly labelled + and - on the circuit board

Now we have the the reverse image - if you look at the black clamped down unit at the top
there is what appears the be a round antenna connector to the left of it
This may suggest that the black module is the GPS unit

At this point I'd say for $37 or whatever the cost - buy one and take it appart if you need certainty.

Thats my best shot.
 
Charging is through the micro USB connector. See the manual.

The square is the GPS antenna, it looks like one, is the right size and appears to have the GPS receiver directly underneath it. The battery is under the board and not shown in the photgraph.
