Hello,

PAL is 50fps while NTSC is 60fps.
Are they progressive or interlaced scanning?

Both are interlaced, but note that Never Twice Same Color is not in fact 60Hz, but ~59.97Hz to make the croma sub carrier come out right (This is stupid, and really annoying for all sorts of reasons).

Both are pretty much historical curiosities at this point, with ATSC and the various DVB variants having taken over almost completely outside of some outdated CCTV plant.

Regards, Dan.

As far as I know there have never been any progressive scan PAL, NTSC or SECAM systems in use anywhere except for some specialized studio monitors.
Having had to design a dual standard 60/59.97Hz scan converter I fully concur with Dans comments about it being really annoying!

Brian.
