diode for boost converter

what kind of diode that commonly used in boost conveter??
is it rectifier? schottky? or ultra fas switching diode?

and how to make the snubber circuit in boost converter for the MOSET and diode??

Compared to standard “ultra-fast” power diodes, silicon Schottky devices offer better performance because of their lower forward drops and reduced forward and reverse recovery characteristics. This allows the minimization of switching losses by reducing the “on-to-off” and “off-to-on” transition times, decrease total power loss and reduce component size by increasing switching frequency.
So we choose a normal schottky or a SiC (silicon carbide ) schottky(if available).

Schottky diodes are fastest but have lower breakdown voltage (30-50 v) and higher Rs. Depending on current requirements the higher Rs may be offset by lower conduction voltage. Higher voltage Schottky's are stack diodes.

Shottkey diode will reduce voltage drop and improve the efficiency.

can you please explain why do we need this schottky diode for rectification here? The output of a boost ic is already DC. Why do we need to use schottky diode?

The reason the output is DC is because of a diode in the circuit. We are not talking about adding an additional diode.
Unless, of course, you have some magic boost converter circuit that requires no free-wheeling diode (or a synchronous transistor used as a diode). :wink:
 
Yes. Waveform for SW node is a switching voltage. The diode and the output capacitor make the output of boost a DC voltage.
