Gunn Power Supply Build

Hi everyone,

I'm actually new in Telecommunication field, specific in Microwave and Antenna topics. The reason i made this thread is, i need to know how to build a gunn power supply? In my laboratory, we have gunn power supply with swr meter from Ley*old Di*actic. But it was too old and probably damaged, and because it can be use to do some experiment. So i would like to build one, but do not know how to do it.

If someone can refer me what book i can read, do a project, or have the schematic of the gunn power supply it would be great.

All you need is a DC supply with a fast rise time and preferably UNDER voltage protection. Gunn devices have a negative resistance property and are usually damaged by not applying enough voltage. It seems counter intuitive that less voltage causes damage but it is correct.

The relay drops out if the supply fails and cuts the supply to the Gunn module.

To power Gunn oscillator, any good regulated power supply can be used.
Make sure the available DC current is > 2x the nominal Gunn current for a reliable start. For <100 mW Gunns I used LM317 T regulators without problems.
Avoid long cable runs, best locate the regulator close to Gunn body. Use 0.1 uF plus 10 Ohms in series connected parallel to DC terminals, to avoid low-frequency oscillation.
