16f628a 20mhz 4mhz

What is the maximum oscillator frequency for 16F628A uC? The datasheet says it is 20MHz. But I have seen that PICs without -20/P suffix operate only upto 4MHz and those with this suffix operate upto 20MHz. Is this true for 16F628A also? Nothing about this suffix is mentioned in the datasheet.

16f628 oscillator frequency

No one knows?

16f628a internal oscillator

make overclock with PIC, put a oscilator of more than 4 MHz is a overclock, i belive who it's work, for a while, but works....

Hi CMOS,

The 16F628A part is good for 20MHz. The 'A' version of this chip only has the one (20MHz) speed type.

The older 16F628 (no 'A') had different speed ratings, hence the -20/P suffixe you have seen on this part.

Don't get confused over the internal oscillator in the 16F628A, it is only 4MHz, but an external clock can still be up to 20MHz.

-04/P Pics are -20/P Pics, screen printed name only change.

A mad member :) try to overclock a 16F877 and the pic worked until 35mHz.

Regards,

I had 16F628-20/P in my PIC programmer faulty running at 6MHz and I could not find a new blank chip in the market. The only option available was 16F628A and I was doubtful whether it would run at 6MHz without the -20/P suffix. Now I burned a new 16F628A chip and the programmer is woking back again. Thanks a lot guys.

I have try to overclock PIC 16F627 to 50Mhz.
My code did not use EEPROM.
It get read Manchaster encoded data and send to UART.

I have tested 16F627 very old version can run 30Mhz 4V
16F628A 1 year before version can run 40Mhz 4V
16F628A 1 year before version can run 50Mhz 5.1V, but alway hang up and reset by WDT.
I did not use EEprom routine.
