Hello,

Can anyone recommend an FPGA board, preferably something from Xilinx, which I can use for my little projects at the university or some hobby projects? It does not have to be a fancy thing and should be relatively cheap, something under 100$ would be really cool.

Thanks.

I recently noticed this one: http://latticesemi.com/Home/Products/DevelopmentBoardsAndKits/iCEstick.aspx

The USB stick form factor + pricing are definitely interesting.

Since you asked for xilinx ... if you can get academic pricing, this one might be interesting: http://www.digilentinc.com/Products/Detail.cfm?NavPath=2,400,897&Prod=NEXYS3
Bigger fpga than that papilio, and lots more features on the board.

Or if you can get US Student pricing, this one is definitely cool: **broken link removed**
Wish I could get it for $139, I would have bought one yesterday. :p

USB Stick FPGA is very interesting even if it's not very powerful, nice design.

Nexys 3 Spartan-6 board of Xilinx is pretty powerful actually, it would more than enough for anything I would like to design. It's academic price is also not that bad, I will consider buying it. Just have to check if they ship to Germany for the same price.

This document looks quite useful, thank you. The person who wrote it obviously did a lot of research about the topic, it's a very good guide for anyone who want to purchase an FPGA board.
