Is it possible to automation of layout design in orcad 9.2?? if possible please mention the steps to proceed?????
thanks in advance .......:-D

if u talking of auto placement and autorouting then it is in the orcad but depends on your package orcad uses spectra autorouter

actually i am using orcad 9.2 version whether this version had this package ?? if it is, please refer me with some materials to proceed, to design layout .......:?:

orcad 9.2 is also having autoplacement. but if you having licence key only for pcb layout then you have to get the full version key

Step 1) find all terms with "Auto" in front of them.
Step 2) Forget about them, develop a mental block.
Step 3) learn how to manually place the components with all the requirements for your design including:
Design rules, DFM, DFT, DFR, EMC, current flow & return and making the circuit work.

Step 4) Learn how to manually route the connections including power nets, sentive nets, comms nets, critical nets - before thinking about any others.
Step 5) revisit step 1 and consider if they would have done as good a job at it as you would after you have had lots of practice.

IMO there is not a PCB design package that will consider everything and do a good job with "auto" this & that. Humans are better.

I agree with Matt on this one. I have tried various 'Auto-' routines over the years, none of them worked, even when everything was on a 0.100" pitch. These days with SMD, NO CHANCE. But as long as PCB design is treated as a job anyone can do, we will always have this view that it can be all automated, it cant and computers are no where near as good at humans at the skills required to achieve PCB layouts.
If you want to lay out PCB's you are going to have to do it manually.

Autoroute is a big no-no. But if it would have any value at all, it would be for experienced engineers who know exactly what they are doing and with carefully selected sections of the design and with all of the placement pre-done so that the outcome is predictable.

If you consider this as an alternative to learn how to make a decent PCB yourself this would even be beyond the previously mentioned "big no-no".

Whatever the package it is likely that it also has functions that use the autorouter for certain features.

In CADSTAR I would use the autorouter function of memory routing to do all the repeated inputs etc, or fan out is another autorouter function.

These work well - but the entire board - not for me thank you.
