Does anyone know how to reset a 'Replace Fans' alarm on a Chloride UPS?

Hello, I have taken a UPS over and it has a 'Replace Fan' alarm does anyone know how to reset it? It is made by chloride. I also have a siemens masterguard with same problem.

It is probably a warning that your fan is having problems , I guess it is connected to the rpm output of the fan.
Have you replaced the fan with a different one?

I was told it the fans have a life span and need replacing after this. We replaced all the fans but it still alarms that they need replacing.

Were the old fans with 3 cables that have an output to measure the speed?
Are the new ones of the same type?
I don't know if the alarm is an actual indication of malfunction of the fans (which should have been fixed by replacing the fans) or if it is just some kind of counter that reports that the fans are aged and needs to be reset some way.

Yes they were replaced like for like. Only two cables. I believe it to be a counter that has flagged and just needs resetting, a parameter or something but have now idea how.

HI, These UPS units have a simple count down clock on their logic boards. It is a case that even replacing the fans (or batteries if it is a 'battery service message') does not cancel the alarm. Chloride (now Emmerson) have the ability to cancel the alarm with software, of course this is at a charge !!. One way to cancel the alarm is to drain the battery retaining the clock information. This resets all of the alarm clocks int he UPS. You have to switch off the UPS and disconnect the supply input totally, then disconnect or remove the main UPS batteries. The little battery on the logic board will then slowly discharge. You need the UPS off for at least 4-6 hours. By then the logic battery will have fully discharged. When you start the UPS up again the countdown clocks will reset. They will come back on again in either 3 or 5 years time. Same with Masterguard units. Good luck

Are you sure that the value of this timer is in RAM, not in NVRAM with the rest of the settings and events logs. As far as I know in the powerful UPS APC and DE this is not the case. Is it enough to reset the timer to put UPS in service bypass mode at this time? You have done this?

I only talked about Emmerson (Chloride) units.. The timers may well be different on APC units. It's all just a money making gimmick that is extremely annoying for individuals and small business users. The UPs has to be totally isolated from any kind of AC or DC support, so mains and batteries have to be disconnected to run down the clock battery. For APC units I do not know where the clocks are stored or supported, sorry.

It may be that the discharge may solve this problem. If not then you could be looking at the batteries actually needing replacing.
 

I support the UPS for small businesses. They are very different and certificates for all get very complicated. I agree with you that-

I do not check your competence, am surprised that so simple, you can reset this alarm.
 

Its Parameter number P109 to reset the fan counter within PPVIS
