fpga rf wireless design

is it possible to configure an FPGA chip so that it will work as a wireless transceiver?
i know FPGA is a digital chip, just wander if it is possible.

or can we support it with some external analog circuits to make it possible.

wireless communication in fpga

This is a ideal design scheme about software radio, but at the present time, it is a little difficult with technology problem.
we can make use of compromissary scheme, i.e. we can change signal frequency from RF to IF, and then convert analog signal into digital signal through high speed AD converter.
so, you can process signal using FPGA or DSP, this is actual processing technology.
