Hi
I'm looking for a software for capture data and graph from a 8720B network analyser.
I have the GPIB interface and I don't have time to write something under Labview.
I have tried intuilink (V1.2) and it doesn't work.

Could anybody help me??

Thank

Greg

agilent vee 8753

Try getting Agilent's VEE software...

They have virtual instruments (via GPIB) and ready-to-use drivers for HP8720 VNA... It will be a matter of 10minutes to acquire your data (even with no prior knowledge of the VEE environment)

Is it possible to make exe file with VEE by @gilent?

SoftPlot or SPview are commercial but economic solutions.
Are you sure the problem is with intuilink?
If you have NI-Spy , you can monitoring the GPIB if data flow exist.
In any case, you should check the 8720 GPIB settings.

retrieve data from vna software gpib

Hi Sergio

When I used intuilink (V1.2), I was able to check the VNA and when I tried to transfert data I had the message "PU not supported".

It is stange because normally the V1.2 is able to support this VNA (8720B).
I used GPIB/USB from NI and not from Agilent. Perhap's it's the problem!
Thank

Greg

gpib 8720d

Me too i have GIPB-USB-B from NI. and work!
I've now checked my intuilink and it support 872xD...and later

I suggest to check GPIB setting on 8720. My setting is NOT pass trough and NOT System controller. I've left the recomended GPIB address for VNA's (26)

ni usb gpib settings for vna

Hi sergio

Tomorrow I will Check GPIB setting on my 8720B. I hope that it will be ok.

Can you tell me your version of Intuilink? I think it's V1.3 because V1.2 support 8720A/B/C.

I will inform you to my tests on VNA.

Thank

GREG

My Intuilink is ver. 1.3.0.4 and explicitally say that the compatible VNA are 8719, 8720, 8722, 8753 version D, E, ES, ET.

When i use Intuilink i do the following operations:
1) click "Identify Instruments", and wait for a response. The leds on VNA blinks.
2) Then ckick on connect
3) Manually, i set-up the wanted display format (i.e. smithchart if i want s11)
4) Intuilink v.1.3 can download the 4 spar at time only for 87xxE ; but in conjunction with the 8722D that i have, only 2 spar (i.e. s11 and s22) may by donwloaded at time.

P.S. Have you checked if others System Controller (other than the PC) are alive on your IEEE-488 bus ? Only one (the PC) is permitted.

Hi Sergio

I have just found moment now to try your solution!! sorry
I downloaded the V1.3 of intuilink. When I want to connect my VNA, I have the message "8720B is not a supported instrument"

It's impossible to acquire any data.
What is your VNA (8720D)??

Have you any idea?

Regards

Effectively, a carefully raed of the help file of the Intuilink, say that only last version of 872x family may communicate with intuilink.
I have 8722D and it's limitate to only 2 spar at time. Apparently only 872xE has full support.

Alternatively there are almost 2 commercial solutions.
SPview - Fully functional, very friendly and easy, also light (on the old V 1.42).
SoftPlot, also a very good software, just less friendly but more "industry standard".

If you are a VNA user, there are almost two related jobs that are often tedious to do:
1) Insert Cal Kit data into VNA
2) Calculate the measurement uncertainty

for both there are the relative free software.
1) www.vnahelp.com
2) search for "UncertTest.xls" on Agilent website

8720a intuilink

I had the same problem. For the graph part, the only thing I can
suggest is to get a Digital Camera and take a picture. It's not
sophisticated but it's easy.

Cheers

Hi
I have tested the eval version of SPview for make the capture of the data.
It work fine and the price is not expensive.
I think that it is a solution for the old VNA
You can download the eval version directly at :
