I have assembled one 51 mcu based led matrix moving message display with single colour led. This is working well as well brightness also quite satisfactory in 5volt. But now I am using one multicolour leds ( ie 2 rows green,3rows white and 2rows orange.) brightness is dull. Also tried to incorporate 12 volt conversion, but in vain.Suggestion please.

Hi,
I think there may be the problem of supply less current... Because current taking by different color are different... So i think you should use IC 74HCT573... this can increase current if there is the problem with that...
also you should to check the ground wire also... The Ground wire should be thicker...

Try this

there are two probabilities
1-your power supply
2- your drivers or transistors leading the current
1 :
power supplies have two parameters , voltage and current
if your new leds are in parallel , you should increase your current level
if your new leds are in series , you should increase your voltage ''
2 :
if you used micro pins to turn the leds on, use a driver or transistor circuit
for transistors and drivers check their maximum current

I hope it helps you

you'd be better to post its circuit for a better analysis.
