hi,

i have problem with the simulation of Wilkinson splitter at 1847MHz. I can't set TFR properly in ADS momentum. Schematic Simulation works well with lumped 100ohm resistor. But i cant get same result in Momentum. How can i set TFR sheet and at which location it must be placed.

I am following the 2nd design on this page.

I guess you can make it more simple. Do as Agilent do in Momentum tutorials: place two additional ports at the places where you suppose to connect resistor.Simulate it and convert to layout component. Put it into schematic and connect your resistor to relevant ports. Simulate at schematic.

I can't set TFR properly in ADS momentum.

Why? For the layer with your thin film resistors, you can set the sheet resistance (ohm/square) in the Momentum substrate settings.
One example for resistive sheet can be found here: examples > Momentum > Microwave > ThickCond_Spiral_prj

Thanks for reply.

There was error in substrate stack. After assigning same precedence to top copper layer and resi layer , it is working.

If there's anything I learned from designing these dividers, is that's that layout you have is horrendous. There is too much coupling between your two lambda/4 branches being side by side like that, ideally you want them as isolated as possible. Consider a circle - not only do you have good isolation, but the resulting divider is also more wideband.

Good Luck

This solution would also be used in other simulation software such as Ansoft designer, Microwave office and ..

Thanks for reply.

Do i need other softwares such as Ansoft designer , microwave office etc along with ADS, for accurate combiner design?
Is it possible to implement using lumped elements for combiner at 900MHz and 1800MHz.

I means that you can export the snp file and make a circuit simulation in other sofwares with sNp file and resistors.

But you can easily do that with ADS. There is no need to use one of the programs that you mentioned.

You are right. using the other software may be usable when the degree of power splitter is high and one want to optimize the resistor values.
I think that the optimizer of different software do not work similar.

For designing power splitter i do as this procedure:
1. determine the degree
2. design in circuit simulation
3. analyze in momentum software. with setting ports at two pins of any resistor
4. export the sNp file, and simulate with resistor.

ADS can easily do that. There is absolutely no need to use other software, even if you want to optimize the resistors.

Hello,
Generally, The wilkinson power divider by used ads software, i chosed lump-element and chosed other size of resistor in library.

is it possible to make prototype of 1800Mhz combiner using lumped elements ?

Yes it possible, but... You will get narrower bandwidth + higher IL + couple of hours of lab work after simulation

Totally agreed. ADS is enough.
