Here is a very well done tutorial on LED drivers. I do not know what type of LEDS you will be using, but this tutorial explains a few different driver techniques that you can use. Also, I would look at LED drivers. There are many LED drivers that allow you to vary the brightness, provide PWM signals, as well as even create certain patterns with multiple LEDs.
