Hello,

Can we get star points in Altium 10?

A star point can be 2 point, 3 point, or more.

Its a component comprising 2 pads which lie one on top of the other(s).

Each pad gets connected to a different net (…usually “Ground1”, “Ground2”, “Ground3”, etc etc).

If , say, the “ground3” track is routed to the starpoint, then it must actually go to the startpoint, it isn’t allowed to be routed to the track that’s connected to say the “ground2” pad.

Thanks,

Really what i am trying to avoid is that without a net tie Altium will "remove loops" (i have to set it to "remove loops " because in most cases i want that.....but with the different grounds, i do not want it to remove the loops......

so basically, i want Altium to stop deleting my various ground runs and i wish to use net ties to do this....would you say that is a valid use of net ties.....?...ie, to stop altium from deleting ground runs?

Hi,Grizedale

While routing manually you can disable loop removal option by pressing TAB/ uncheck the automatically remove loops option for particular connection.

Cadstar has star points too.

If Altium does not then can you make a component that joins them all, pads near each other that are connected by a bit of copper?

yes i put net tie's in, and altium wont let me route TO the net tie, but it will let me route FROM the net tie

Can you post a sample image or file of the problem you're having with the net tie?

well its not a massive problem because i can route FROM the net tie.

By the way, in the library, the net tie is literaly two pads, which i connected with a polygon of metal........so the pads are shorted.....i take it that this is the right thing to do?.......................i mean, thats what i want the net tie to be.
