Issue with Lumped RLC in HFSS

Thanks for the reply. I implemented Volker's suggestion manually. It gives me answers for ReY and ImY that are close to my expectations. I am now working on a version of my pyaedt Python code. My stumbling block is implementing the lumped_port method. I am not understanding all of the arguments...

Issue with Lumped RLC in HFSS

Thanks for the reply. That would be a solution, but I haven't been able to figure how to do it.

Issue with Lumped RLC in HFSS

Thanks, I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my question. I spent my career looking at resonant cavity circuits. It never occurred to me to look at the problem non resonantly. Now I am looking at the affect of this analysis on my results.

Issue with Lumped RLC in HFSS

J now get sensible answers by looking at the coil admittance with a lumped port.

Issue with Lumped RLC in HFSS

I get nonsense answers with a 1A current source. I get a gap voltage of 0.8721+j.00312 with f=13.46 MHz. The reactance of the coil including the internal capacitance ought to be around 500 Ohms, The effective inductance is about 6 uH. So a 1A excitation should yield a voltage of about 500 V...

Issue with Lumped RLC in HFSS

I like this idea because the mesh doesn't change between frequency steps, which is a problem with my present approach. This gets rid of the noise due to mesh variations between steps since I want to look at the change in reactance with frequency. If I take two frequencies the change in reactance...

Issue with Lumped RLC in HFSS

Thanks for the reply. That is an interesting idea. My problem is a high Q resonator. I have been using the eigenmode solver. I want to know the inductance and the effective capacitance at the terminal. If I can accurately get the reactance as a function of frequency I can do a least squares fit...

Issue with Lumped RLC in HFSS

I am using HFSS simulating a 3D coil with an external Lumped capacitance. I want to calculate the change in frequency with a change in the external capacitance. My calculation of the internal stored energy depends on the difference of two frequencies from a change delta_C in the external...

Looking for advice on micro-controller choice

Pulses data 10 to 100 usec wide, repetition rate 1000 pps maximum. My sd ample and hold grabs the data in about 2 us.

Looking for advice on micro-controller choice

I have a DDS based rf generator that I have been building for about 10 years. The current controller is a bit long in the tooth. I want to replace it. My current system uses a Sage (Rabbbit) RCM3400 on an eval board. These are custom built systems with varying specs so I have relied on...

Is there a lofting function in HFSS 2019R2 or later?

I have a complex structure I have drawn in HFSS using Python scripting. It is a TE mode structure consisting of a series of cells of different lengths in z. The shape in the XY plane varies to keep the cutoff frequency constant as a parameter varies with z. I can draw the shapes at each z(i) and...

    Controlling HFSS with Mathematica

I have a Mathematica program, created by someone else, that can create and run problems on HFSS. There is an issue that this program always uses the latest version of HFSS. For technical reasons, I need to run an earlier version without uninstalling the new version. This is the part of the code...

HFSS 11 under Linux, eigenmode problem

hfss11 linux Maybe the problem is that HFSS is confused about my memory size. I have 8 GB available. The cavity sample problem from Ansoft uses less than 1 GB, maybe only a few hundred MB. I can run driven problems with memory requirements of 2 to 3 GB with no problem. However, I will explore...

Which Linux for HFSS v. 11?

hfss linux edition I have had the multiprocessor license for HFSS for some time. Is there an XP add-on or were you refering to HFSS? My previous HFSS computer is running with dual Xeons with hyperthreading. Windows Server 2003 Data Center Edition counts this as 4 CPUs, but XP would only count...

Which Linux for HFSS v. 11?

hfss 11 linux I sure haven't been impressed by the speed of their response to my problem. I think maybe no one has used RHEL 4 with HFSS 11 to calculate eigenmode problems. I'm thinking of taking your advice and switching to Windows. By the way, do you know if there is a limitation on the...
