why does the tool generate some *.mr and *.pvl files in the current directory, when i run it to synthesis my design? And how to delete them or put them into one directory?

I install some eda tools which require to set some enviroment variables, such as LM_LICENSE_FILE and CDS_ROOT etc, to the system, however I don't how to do so that i can use it when the system sets up each time.
do I require to write some command to the /etc/bashrc or /etc/profile files...
i have installed 2002.05, but i can't run the design_v*sion and prime_time's GUI
the system said it couldn't find liborg.so
I want to know how i solve it and where i can find the file
when I have installed this software, I can use the pt_shell rightly, but when I run it's gui model , it said "error can't find share libraries liborg.so"
I can't find the lib in install dictory.
why?
