Hi,
I have connected 12v 7.2 amps battery to 12v 6amps solar charge controller which is getting power from 12v 10Watt solar panel.
I want to protect the battery from over discharging (deep discharge) during the usage. Can some one suggest me or provide me a simple circuit for deep discharge protection.

Thanks in Advance

If you want abrupt off and on, a relay is the most convenient method.

Schematic:

If your load can tolerate gradual turning on and off...

or if you want some warning that the lights are going dim), then transistor switching may be satisfactory.

Schematic:

Hi BradtheRad,

The first schematic looks suitable for my requirement. I want to save the life of battery from going into deep discharge. I will try this circuit.
Also i will try to add an LED to indicate the battery is low.

Thank you .

This link is to another thread about battery testing and monitoring. It has my schematic of a low-battery alarm.

Hi BradtheRad,

Thank you for the circuit. Sorry for the late reply.

Also to mention, now i have 2 options to protect deep discharge of the battery. One method is by using your circuit, and the second method is using the Solar Charge controller.
After checking the connections for PWM based solar charge controller, there is an option to connect load from the controller. This controller is automatically cutting off the supply to the load when the voltage of the battery drops below 12v.

Yes. Your controller may have an adjustment to change what volt level the shut-off activates. Typical setting is anywhere between 10.5 and 12V.

It may also have an adjustment as to what volt level the charging starts to taper off.
