In most projects of programmers, STK200 uses circuit 74HC244 as a buffer that protects the computer port against accidental damage and as well allows normal operation of the microcontroller after programming with no need to disconnect the device from the computer.
A programmer STK200 with 74HC125 can be home made as a clone of NE405-K.
The whole electronics with SMD elements fit the housing DB25 with a “male” connector and is directly plugged into LPT laptop port.
The PCB was made using the “chalk paper” method, then tinned. The programmer has connected “in parallel” two ribbon cables with “female” connectors IDC 10-pin and 6-pin, crimped to the rubber.
This cheap project is a great alternative for programmer with 74HC244.
