I've found several schematics for the EC2002 soldering station, but none of them indicate what the actual function of each pin on the soldering iron connector is. I'd like to find a pinout for the 5-pin DIN-style soldering iron plug so that I can build a new station, since my EC2002-0 seems to have died. (it just blinks random numbers at me when in "set" mode, and displays a blank screen when in "read" mode)

Hi!

It's not the easiest thing to decipher, but I make out the connections of the plug/socket to be:-

Pin 1:- Grey - Element High From Transformer 24V
Pin 2:- Grey - Element Low to Diode/Triac
Pin 3:- White - Thermistor High to Adjustment Pot'r
Pin 4:- Purple - Thermistor Low to LF353 + input circuit
Pin 5:- Black - Earth to Tip/Barrel

Thanks! That looks like it matches what I'm able to tell from my EC2002's internal wiring, though it's a much never version with only surface-mount parts on the boards. On mine, pin 5 is definitely ground, and pin 1 does look like the 24V line. It turns out the thermocouple pins are actually a different material from the others... they look like they could be brass or gold-plated. I need to see if I can dig up a thermocouple decoder chip like the MAX31855.

Greetings! I'm new to this forum, having found it on a google search regarding this topic. My question is does anyone know if the pinouts are the same for the wmrp series of irons that interface with the wd1m power units. I'm guessing they are, but I do not want to accidently fry the thermocouple. Thank you.
