Hi ,

Can any one explain how we can drive 16 lcd digits by using hef4543 IC from at89c51 controller.(each hef ic for each digit). (In one of the existing designs we checked and extracted the information that,it is driving with hef4543 IC for each digit. In between he used a 74hc4514 decoder and CD 4054).

thanks and regards
Amarnadh.

Hi,

I assume that you require 16 digits of 7 segment LCD display. If this is the case you have to use shift register not bcd encoder. Try MAX7219 or MAX7221 which can give you upto 16 digits with just three line of your microcontroller.

Hope this helps you
Thankyou

u ll find a 4 digit 7segment display in one module
get 4 of them and for its working try looking its data sheet

Thank you for your reply,

yes Mr.Murthy

You are right. My requirement is 16 digits of 7ss lcd, but it is not continuous module,it contains two 6digits lcd and one four digit lcd. In the existing design from controller to lcd modules connected through 20 pin connector from controller (AT89c51) and he used 16 hef 4543 ic's , two cd4054 ic's one 74hc4514 ic. In that 20 pin connector four are for address and another four for BCD data, eight for vcc and gnd, remaining signals are i am not able to understand.
Please suggest or you have any existing designs with this configuration please post me.

Thankyou
Amarnadh.
