seems a silly question but seriously is there a USB PIC programmer using Atmel chip like ATMega8? since I've seen some PIC programmer capable of programming Atmel chip...

...Hi Kasamiko, let me tell you frankly that i'm a newbie but this idea seems not only interesting but it should be possible too...as ISP is a bridge sort of thing which joins two chips or circuits...so if we setup a programmer using USB and atmega with ISP capability...we should be able to program atmega as well as PIC with ISP...well i'll give it a try, as I also had thought the same thing while making a PIC programmer...as for USB conversion ATmega is cheaper than PIC-2550 or PIC-4550 etc...so I wanted to make a USB PIC programmer using ATmega8 but that time I couldn't find one so, ended up with a serial PIC programmer...
...neverthyless, it's a nice idea, will try out and let know...

Hi,

Thanks for the interest..actually just finished my USB programmer (old GTP USB Lite) unfortunately I can't get any 2550 in my place but got 2 pcs. 4550..so I revised the connection to accommodate a bigger 4550..I just follow the PORT connection and burn the same HEX and it works!

Well looking forward for USB PIC programmer using Atmel preferably Atmega8....:D

...yes the same hex will work because the pin diagram of PIC-18F2550 and PIC-18-F4550 is same...and it's better to use PIC-18F4550 as it's far better than PIC-18F2550 for a slight increase in the price...cheers for your project...would you like to share the schematics... :) ...

...how do you ad that "helpful? thumb up"?....

...nice job...today i've got an Atmega8L and will work upon our idea this weekend... :) ...and will let you know the outcome about PCI to atmega and vice versa programmer...
...thanks for the schematics... :) ...
