Hello,
We need a small common mode choke for our offline 230VAC, 40W, linear led driver which is not smps based but rather switches banks of leds in and out as the mains half cycles rise and fall.
It must be SMD.
There are none off the shelf.
We need to but a torroid , wind it, then mount it in a surface mount holder.
Do such pairs exist? (ie surface mount holders and torroids)?

Ole Wolff electronics may have what your looking for also. Both company's have stores in the U.K. I believe.

What we need is 3 turns for each coil around this torroid core, and for them to mount it in a surface mount holder for us.
Ferrite torroid datasheet:

The great thing about this is that because its a common mode choke, even this tiny ferrite will not saturate, (not on diff mode current anyway, and common mode current is so small that it will never saturate it) when used in live and neutral. -Even the magnetising current of the coils cancels out.

What are you particularly asking for?

Magnetics has a surface mount holder for the core (actually two different types), so are you looking for a manufacturer to assemble the part? I presume there are many makers of custom magnetic parts in the UK.

Thanks, but all the mag-inc mounts are not surface mount and also mount the torroid vertically, which would make it too high for us.

we are constrained to 4.5mm height, and 8x8mm LxW

Obviously, you did not search mac-inc website before posting.

Definitely below the expectable dimensions of a regular mount for the mentioned core. Sounds like directly soldering coil wires to the PCB, may be in combination with partial molding. Discuss with a special manufacturer, I don't apply to implement your exotic design ideas.

This may sound like a silly question but can electronic components be mounted on both sides of a pub. In cases where space is limited on one side but there is ample space on the other side of board would this be a possible option. I

Both sides of a pcb. Lol

Thanks, in the meantime we need to take a torroid to the emc house and wind it, and re-wind it at the test house and re-test till we find the lowest common mode inductance that solves the emissions problem...
however, the highest permeability torroid we can find on farnell with at least 25mm inner diameter is this one, and its only got AL = 12900.......

these things are rare

Thanks, do you think we'd get away with putting a MSD1260 common mode choke into the live/neutral of a UK mains product.?

https://www.coilcraft.com/pdfs/msd1260_cm.pdf

Its got 500Vrms of isolation, also we'd be siting it downstream of a fuse, so surely the regulations wouldnt stand against us?
