    PEP Ratio

Hello All, I want to do a blocking test to understand the effect of an interferer to my transceiver. This question is about the interferer noise model; AWGN type with a PEP ratio of X. What should X be for Wi-Fi or GSM, 4G type signals, modulations? I could not figure out a reliable source for...

    Colpitts oscillator in ADS

1- try using a short stub transmission line for your tank circuit inductor, in oscillator designs using lumped inductors create problems in pcb. 2-since tank circuitry is a ratio of inductor/capacitor; first see how much inductor value you can get for a short stub inductor, then choose the...

Measuring S-parameters of RF Power Amplifier

Apart from all the layout stuff that was said (I agree with all of them), If you have not included the attenuator in your calibration process, reason for S21 being negative is the value of attenuator. Add the loss of your attenuator to your PA gain; that's your real S21. S22 measurement of a PA...

Unknown 50 Hz noise in CW radar output - Need help removing it

1- Is your mixer active or passive? If it's an active mixer, supply can be the problem. 2- Ac coupling capacitor at the output of the mixer can cause problems if you are using a Zero-IF conversion scheme. You may need to change the capacitor.

Small signal S-parameter measurements of RF power amplifier using VNA

Apart from placing the capacitors in order with their resonance frequencies (going from small values to large); how would you place vias around them? an what rule-of-thumb would you use for via radius at this frequency (3.4 Ghz) ?

Small signal S-parameter measurements of RF power amplifier using VNA

Hello Georgy, Came across this thread in the forum. It is surprisingly informative about RF layout techniques. I want to get your opinion on some questions. -How important are the stitching vias along the RF line in this design? Should there be; or is it fine like this? -Why would you use...

    [SOLVED] losses in microstrip line

To check for manufacturing errors, you may need to inspect the board with a camera system. Check that the traces have the correct width as intended; sometimes when traces are long; width of the line may change.

Need help in optimizing RF antenna balun on two port network analyzer

Also, what's the frequency range of the balun? Narrowband and wideband systems and their compensation methods are different.

How to handle frequency dependent IIP3 and noise figure in Matlab/Simulink cascade analysis?

Well, in case of Adisim you can select a amplifier with similar characteristics to the amplifier that you have; however if you want a more direct solution yes, you need one of the RF design tools. In AWR and in ADS the thing you asked is simple. You can even have a gui for frequency selection...

How to handle frequency dependent IIP3 and noise figure in Matlab/Simulink cascade analysis?

Well, this is present in RF design programs such as AWR, ADS or CST. However, main problem is finding the data itself. With passive devices its easy since nf is their insertion loss. However with active devices you need to have the non-linear model or noise data of the device. If you have the...

How to handle frequency dependent IIP3 and noise figure in Matlab/Simulink cascade analysis?

-what type of python scripts are you using? +Normally I use spreadsheets too. If you want to calculate NF depending on frequency you need to have data of the device w.r.t frequency; some vendors provide NF data; some not. Some vendors have their own cascaded nf, IIP3 calculators; they serve more...

    rf transistor cw and pulse

Check for the change in temperature in your components during the pulse. It really depends if your pulse is in order of milliseconds or microseconds in some cases with high power. a pulse with %10 duty cycle and 1.5ms duration may seem like a pulse but can act like CW in terms of heat generation.

RF testing of three port device with two port VNA.

You can do both and compare the results honestly. Solution Bigboss offers is a solid one. I would personally do 2 different measurements and compare them to each other. 1- Solution of Bigboss 2- get a https://www.minicircuits.com/WebStore/dashboard.html?model=TCM1-83X%2B ; I used this balun...

    Cavity and LTCC filters

I believe LTCC is a surface mount unit while cavity filters are more like a wave-guide like structure. Integrating cavity filters into a PCB requires different mounting techniques while LTCC can be made as SMT and soldered like a classic component.
