What you experience is clearly the result of a constant power load: the lower the input voltage, the more current the lights draw. You definitely need a higher voltage at the end of the 100? 200m? run. Just a few volts more may make a big difference.

Well I don't see ratings on smps level efficiency and standby usage in the DK124 datasheet. I may be looking at the wrong place. Now I notice the fuse holder has a good enclosure, no problem with creepage indeed.

There is nothing wrong with your basic idea, it should work. I've used a cheap class D module, a battery and a speaker before to make a usable mobile bass amp.
